Kess is a German Shepard serving as a K9 Detective with the Vineland Police Department. K9 Kess and his handler are assigned to the Vineland Police Department Street Crimes Unit, where he locates and apprehends fleeing or hiding subjects, locates narcotics during search warrants, and tracks missing persons; he also assists the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force on occasion. Kess supports the community with K9 demonstrations at several schools and National Night Out. Originally partnered with Officer J. Rodriguez before Detective Luciano became his handler by department agreement, Kess is the first K9 "Detective" in Vineland history. Off duty he enjoys pup cups, boat rides, and playing catch with his handler.
