Arco, a Belgian Malinois with Hermosa Beach PD, is a dual-purpose police K9 specializing in explosives detection and apprehension. He locates explosives and searches buildings, vehicles, open areas and other environments where his detection abilities are critical, and he is deployed to assist with apprehending dangerous or violent suspects to help keep officers and the public safe. Arco holds a KNPV title and completed a 240-hour police K9 training course; he and his handler maintain and advance their skills through regular monthly training in explosives detection, apprehension, building and area searches, and other real-world police K9 applications. Off duty he relaxes, plays with toys, enjoys outdoor exercise, and shows a playful, goofy side.
